- Health Insurance
- You and your family are eligible for low-cost, comprehensive health insurance benefits through Missouri Consolidated Health Care Plan. Plans available to you depend on in which region of Missouri you live. Most regions offer HMO's and Co-Pay plans. As a new employee you have 31 days to enroll in a health insurance plan. You also have 31 days after a life event such as marriage or a birth to add dependents.
- Retirement:
- The state offers a defined-benefit (non-contributory) retirement plan. You will be fully vested in the program after five years of state service. The formula-driven benefit is paid to employees upon retirement. Normal retirement benefits begin at age 65, age 60 with 15 years of service, or when the employee's years of service and age equal 80.
- Deferred Compensation:
- This is a tax-deferred retirement savings plan. Employees may contribute pre-tax income and earn interest tax-free until the funds are withdrawn for retirement. Investment options include fixed savings accounts and mutual funds. The state contributes $25 per month to each employee's plan who contributes at least that much and is employed at least a year.
- Flexible Benefit Plan:
- Employees have the option of purchasing low-cost vision and/or dental insurance, and saving taxes by directing premium payments through the Cafeteria Plan. As a new employee, you have 31 days to enroll.
- Basic and Optional Life Insurance:
- You receive one times your annual salary of term life insurance for free. And you have the option of purchasing additional insurance for yourself and your family (up to six times your annual salary for yourself, other maximums for family members). As a new employee you have 31 days to enroll. After the first 31 days, you will have to prove insurability to increase any optional life insurance. You may decrease your coverage at any time.
- Voluntary Life Insurance:
- You have the option to purchase voluntary life insurance for yourself and your family. This insurance can be taken with you at the same premium when you leave state government.
- Long Term Disability Insurance:
- You are covered under the state's long term disability plan which provides you with 60% of your monthly salary if you become disabled. The plan has a 90 day elimination period. Even though you're not working, you continue to accrue tenure (for retirement purposes) while on LTD.
- Cafeteria Plan:
- You have the opportunity to enroll in the cafeteria plan, which is a tax-reduction program. You may direct a portion of your pre-tax earnings through the cafeteria plan to pay for certain qualifying expenses (i.e., day care, medical co-pays, uncovered medical expenses). You have 120 days to enroll as a new employee.
- Annual Leave:
- This type of leave is earned in increments of 5 hours per pay period (more for employees with 10 or more years of service). Credit is given the day after the pay period in which it is earned. Balances are carried forward continuously until the maximum is reached. The maximum you can accrue, and carry forward, is 240 hours (more for employees with 10 or more years of service). Leave is pro-rated if employee works less than full time.
- Sick Leave:
- This type of leave is also earned in increments of 5 hours per pay period. Credit is given the day after the pay period in which it is earned. Balances are carried forward continuously. No maximum accrual. Leave is pro-rated if employee works less than full time.

- Twelve holidays are observed by the state. They are:

- Employee Assistance Program:
- This is a free counseling program available to all state employees and members of their household. Up to six free visits per episode each year per household member.
- VISA Corporate Card:
- Available to all state employees. No annual fee. Balance must be paid in full each month.
